Completed in 2012, Bait Ur Rouf Mosque is a contemporary interpretation of traditional mosque architecture in Bangladesh. Designed by Marina Tabassum, the project relies on handcrafted brickwork, natural ventilation, and carefully controlled daylight to create a place of worship that is both humble and deeply spiritual. Its thoughtful design earned the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2016.

Light, Brick, and Silence
Built without domes or minarets, the mosque expresses its identity through proportion, material, and light rather than ornament. Perforated brick walls filter daylight and encourage natural ventilation, while the simple geometry creates an atmosphere of quiet contemplation inspired by the historic brick mosques of Bengal.

Bait Ur Rouf demonstrates how architecture can achieve a powerful spiritual presence through restraint. With locally crafted brick, passive environmental strategies, and a carefully composed sequence of spaces, the mosque stands as a timeless example of architecture rooted in place, climate, and community.
