Cairo, Egypt 2024

Bab Al-Azab has long served as one of the most important gateways to the Citadel of Salah Al-Din. Through this documentation project, the focus was placed on recording its architectural details, material character, and relationship to the surrounding historic landscape. The result is a visual record of a landmark that continues to reflect centuries of Cairo's history.

Preserving What Remains

Commissioned by BIDAYAT in partnership with The Sovereign Fund of Egypt and developed in collaboration with Torasna, this documentation project records one of the most significant historic gateways within the Citadel of Salah Al-Din.

Historic buildings are among the most valuable records a city possesses. They tell stories that cannot be found in photographs, drawings, or books alone. Projects like the documentation of Bab Al-Azab play an essential role in preserving these places, ensuring that future generations can continue to learn from them, study them, and understand the history embedded within their walls. In a city as layered as Cairo, documenting heritage is not only an act of preservation but also an investment in cultural memory itself.
